8.5.16 CERTIFICATE OF COMPLIANCE
The certificate of compliance is a fairly new requirement; it seems to serve as a supplement to page-length requirements. Modern word processing systems could make it supplement to page-length requirements.
Modern word processing systems could make it point font instead of 12-point font. A certificate of compliance typically requires an attorney to certify that he or she has complied with particular court rules as to length; as electronic filing becomes more common, courts may add requirements depending on what kinds of problems they encounter with electronically filed documents (e.g., computer viruses, electronic documents that differ from hard-copy documents).26 (In a law school setting, you may also be asked to certify that you have complied with the honor code.) You should look specifically to see if your court requires this kind of certificate; note that some courts may use this title in other contexts, or use a different title for a similar certificate. One sample brief in Appendix C includes an example of a certificate of compliance.
