Series Editor Introduction

Recognising that competencies are developed over time and increase with experience, this SQE2 series helps to ‘grow’ the legal professional using guided exercises, self-reflection and elements of independent study.

Each textbook in this series is designed to help the reader to master the six legal skills assessed in the SQE2 in the context of specific fields of practice whilst also preparing them for entering a new life in practice. In this way it is hoped that the textbooks will serve as both a workbook and a reference manual to help the reader to build upon and improve their skills at the early stages of their legal career. Each book in the series contains commentary explaining why and how the legal skills are relevant to practice as well as signposting when the inclusion of additional information would increase the quality and effectiveness of the legal professional’s work and when the inclusion of certain irrelevant or incorrect information would not. In addition to the six SQE legal skills, the exercises in each book are designed to help with the development of additional skills such as observation, decision-taking, judgment, drafting and retention of information as well as taking the reader through the essentials of procedural rules and practice tasks.
