REAL AND VIRTUAL WAVES

In modern scientific terms, we can say that the enlightened seers were actually seers of the vacuum. According to quantum theory, the vacuum state is not really empty; it is filled with virtual quantum waves, which transcend all means of direct empirical detection.

For example, the difference between a real electromagnetic wave and a virtual electromagnetic wave is that one can be empirically detected, at least in principle, while the other cannot. In spite of the fact that it cannot be detected, a virtual wave is required by principles of quantum theory. Moreover, quantum theory suggests that the so-called vacuum of empty space is filled with virtual quantum waves of all types. According to the ancient seers, these are hidden initially by the veil of pure ignorance that shrouds the mind. When our awareness becomes identified with the field of pure consciousness, and the veil of ignorance is removed, then the virtual quantum waves inherent within the universal vacuum are experienced as the waves of our own unbounded awareness and the transcendental light and transcendental sound of consciousness—the vibratory modes of our own being.

That which is experienced by the unenlightened soul as a silent and dark form of emptiness becomes experienced by the enlightened soul as a luminous and sonic form of fullness. The virtual light that shines in the awareness of such an enlightened soul is the light that shines in the darkness—the light, which the darkness has never mastered. This light serves as the “life” of the Cosmos, while the virtual or transcendental sound serves as the “life” of the Logos. Both are required to uphold the conception of the self as a living being, which is spiritual and material, metaphysical and physical.

According to the seers, the modes of transcendental light and sound are eternal. They existed before creation and during creation and they will continue to exist after creation. To grasp fully the reality of the metaphysical Logos, we must cognize the full spectrum of virtual waves. As the awareness of the enlightened soul expands over the spectrum, it does not create these modes. The expansion of consciousness involves merely remembering what had been forgotten due to the influence of ignorance.

This remembrance involves not a physical action, but an act of knowledge. The seers declared that it is through knowledge that the soul obtains full immortality in the bosom of the infinite. In this sense, the ancient spiritual science may be viewed as a science of the vacuum and its virtual modes over a vast spectrum of space-time scales.
