THE SONIC AND LUMINOUS HALVES OF THE SPECTRUM

The analytic and synthetic powers of consciousness have a concrete, dynamic manifestation as the modes of transcendental light and transcendental sound. Therefore, we can equate the analytic power of consciousness and the local, transverse modes of the field (transcendental light), and we can equate the synthetic power and the nonlocal, longitudinal modes of the field (transcendental sound).

By virtue of transcendental light, the universe is locally analyzed into its microscopic parts, and by virtue of transcendental sound the universe is nonlocally synthesized into its macroscopic wholes. Both are required to uphold the integrity of the universe over the spectrum of space-time scales. Without the light of consciousness, the universe would dissolve into a single, nonlocal wholeness, and without the sound of consciousness the universe would dissolve into its elementary constituents.

Although both powers are active on every scale of consciousness, the luminous, analytic power dominates below on microscopic scales and the sonic, synthetic power dominates above on macroscopic scales. Therefore, the overall spectrum is divided into two halves: the upper, sonic half, which embodies the nonlocal realms of heaven, and the lower, luminous half, which embodies the local realms of earth.
