THE UNIVERSAL RULE OF THUMB
We are skirting the boundaries of a very deep science relating the digit, the smallest characteristic measure of the human self, to the divine Ka, the smallest characteristic form of the divine self.
This science is based upon a correspondence between the measure of a physical object (the thumb) and the measure of a metaphysical subject (the soul).Exactly how the ancients came up with this correspondence is unknown, but it serves as the key to assigning empirical units of measure to the spectrum of consciousness. If the thumb width (digit) is equal to the characteristic measure of the first layer above the half measure, which represents the base unit of the exponential system, then the parameters of the entire system of matched pairs is defined by:
100 = 1 digit = 2 ? 100 centimeters
This scheme suggests that the half measure is on the order of a half digit, or approximately 1 centimeter. This is the unit that lies halfway between 2 ? 100 centimeters and 2 ? 10-1 centimeters on an exponential scale. It follows that the system of matched pairs can be formulated most intuitively in terms of centimeters, rather than meters.
