Competing Cultural Institutions of Ukraine

A great area of contention in Ukraine is the role and importance of cultural institutions. Myths of origin are not simply fireside stories. They articulate a community’s values, and express its aspirations. Cultural institutions exist to perpetuate the self-identity of a culture group.

We shall attempt to find our way into this subject by sitting down at a Ukrainian peasant’s hearth, with a cup of hot, sweet tea grasped tightly in our chilly hands, listening to a classic folk tale that has come down through the shadows.
