Everything had worked like clockwork. An internal cry had arisen from oppressed workers (Russian speaking, but Ukrainian Russians). Russia had liberated them from the Nazi NATO-backed and Europe-sympathizing grip of Kyiv.
Russia immediately ramped up support for separationist movements in Eastern Ukraine. Its modus operandi was simple to understand but hard to resist, much like the strategy of the Springboks in playing Rugby. Power trumped weakness, and rhetoric trumped subtlety.
