Ukrainian Invasion—Beta Test Crimea 2014
The first moves in this 2022 conflict were made in 2014, when Russia facilitated the secession of the Ukrainian province of Crimea and the establishment of two break-away republics from the east of Ukraine, the Luhansk People's Republic, and the Donetsk People's Republic.
The global community hardly blinked an eye at the time. France and Germany did help broker a shaky peace, but the UN had been formed to stop acts of global aggression like this from happening.Imagine Wisconsin and Minnesota declaring their independence, and then with the help of 5000 Canadian troops, establishing a hard border between themselves and the rest of the US, and then declaring that they will now pay federal taxes to their natural partners to the north, in the Union of Maple-Syrup Producers.
Ludicrous? That is what Crimea, Luhansk, and Donetsk did in 2014.
