Factors affecting the level of dower
Table 1.10 shows the factors that male respondents considered when setting the level of dower, ranked as follows in order of importance: financial status of the groom, financial status of the bride’s family, the bride’s beauty, her educational level and her professional status. A higher value was placed by urban males on the last two factors as they affect the bride’s potential participation in the financial responsibilities of her family.
