JANANI SHISHU SURAKSHA KARYAKARAM (JSSK)

Considering the difficulties faced by the pregnant women and parents of sick newborn apart from high out of pocket expenses in health care facilities, Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakaram (JSSK) has been launched since

June, 2011 to motivate pregnant women who still choose to deliver at homes to opt for institutional deliveries

Aims: It aims to provide completely free and cashless services to pregnant women including normal deliveries and cesarean operations and sick newborn up to 30 days after birth (now up to 1 years) in government health institutions of both rural and urban areas.

Implementation: JSSK is implemented by all states and union territories with following benefits:

• Free Entitlements for pregnant women include: (a) free and cashless delivery, (b) free C-section, (c) free drugs and consumables, (d) free diagnostics.

(e) free diet during stay in the health institutions,

(f) free provision of blood, (g) free transport from home to health institutions, between facilities in case of referral and from institutions to home.

• Free Entitlements for newborns and infants up to 1 year include: (a) free treatment, (b) free drugs and consumables, (c) free diagnostics, (d) free provision of blood, (e) free transport from home to health institutions, between facilities in case of referral and from institutions to home.
