ORAL CAVITY INFLAMMATIONS
Oropharyngeal inflammations may be infectious or non-infectious in origin. Some common inflammatory disorders of oropharynx include:
Cheilitis, i.e. inflammation of lips and angle of mouth (angular cheilitis) is commonly caused by dryness in winter or windy weather, which may be treated with frequent application of petroleum jelly. However, severe/ refractory cases may be due to—(a) zinc deficiency, (b) contact/atopic dermatitis, and (c) extension of oral thrush.
