Preface

Small Animal Cytologic Diagnosis is the combined effort of veterinary clinical pathologists and other board-certified specialists working across the globe. The goal of this text is to provide small animal clinicians, veterinary students, clinical and anatomic pathology residents, and residents from other specialties with current, clinically applicable information about the diagnostic utility of cytology and provide guidance on the necessity of advanced testing.

The text uses images to illustrate the wide variety of cytologic lesions. Within each chapter, the underlying pathology is discussed, as it relates to the cytologic findings. Unique chapters reviewing general principles of oncology and inflammation that influence the appearance of cytologic lesions are included to aid veterinary students and residents with their study of pathology. Additionally, each chapter contains one or more cases, demonstrating the clinical practicality of cytology.

We hope readers find this text to be a valuable resource that is complete, easy to use, and adds to the excellent information already provided by other veterinary cytology texts.
