Foreword by Marc Willinger

“Pandemnomics” addresses the major challenge of the COVID-19 pandemic for the global economy and for the Turkish economy in particular. Deeper than the economic shock of the 2018 financial crisis, the COVID-19 health crisis is likely to have lasting and far-reaching effects, not only on the economy, but on society, on health and on our way of living and seeing the world.

The global challenge launched by the pandemic is widely discussed in this book, which builds on an original conceptual framework, in terms of global public goods (bads). The book offers us diagnoses and relevant perspectives on the future of our societies, with a global and a local vision. A special focus is given on some key economic issues, e.g. public spending, taxation, monetary policies, cryptocurrencies and digitalization of the economy, and some key social issues, e.g. migrations and viral information. I am proud to recommend this book to curious and demanding readers, as it was co-authored by a talented woman, Bernur, who is also my good friend.
