Among the debates that followed the US resumption of the war against Iraq in 2003, one focused on whether or not it was “just.”
Much of that debate looked to Roman Catholic traditions for resolution. But, how likely is Catholic theology to persuade non-Christians? Are there comparable ideas in other faiths? Not only is the answer to the second question yes, but in a world in which intercultural conflict is common, it is necessary to understand the major traditions. This chapter summarizes Roman Catholic, Greek Orthodox, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Chinese, and Japanese ideas about just war.
