Conclusion

Many causes have been proposed to explain war. Expected utility theory is one of the most important theoretical advances for analyzing decisions regarding war. It scores better than most on each of the criteria for good theory proposed in Chapter 1 and is consistent with dual variable models (Chapter 7). It seems adaptable to many sorts of conflict, so has potential for developing a general theory of conflict.
