Modern-Day Examples
The New Physiocrats look to modern-day Taiwan and Estonia as national examples that have successfully implemented some of the New Physiocratic ideas and policies. Sun Yat-sen, the founder of modern-day Taiwan, was an ardent Georgist, and his successor governments implemented Georgist and other Physiocratic policies.
Since its independence from the USSR, Estonia has pursued a less ideological and more technocratic path to its development, but with many of the same policies and results. Both countries have used a land value tax. Taiwan became one of the most prosperous places on earth, and Estonia has been among the fastest post-communist countries to catch up to its developed peers, with the world’s most successful and innovative governing methods. While the New Physiocratic ideas grew independently, we saw that we were not the only ones to want to implement these ideas.
