8.5.1 CAPTION
Unlike an appellate brief, a motion brief usually does not require a separate cover page. It will, however, probably require a formal caption that includes the name of the court hearing the case, the parties, their procedural titles, the case’s docket number, and the title of the document (e.g., “Memorandum in Support of Defendant Lamb’s Motion to Dismiss”). Note that in some courts, counsel must request oral argument within the caption, so it is particularly important to consult local rules in this regard.
