Introduction
In this chapter we will continue our focus on Technical Legal Practice but this time we will consider the key skills of drafting documents (B4), effective speaking as an advocate and effective written advocacy through written argument (B5) as well as communicating effectively with others (C1) (Figure 3.1).
Speaking to clients, work colleagues, judges, and other professionals, means adapting the way we express ourselves, to the particular context. This includes both our written and spoken communication. However, communication only becomes effective if we can test the information through conversation. Imparting information through writing, talking and asking questions are all part of the skills of communication. Listening is also a key aspect as it allows us to send the correct messages through our conversation.
