Various zones can be identified on earth according to the variation in latitude. These zones have typical climates and associated characteristic vegetation patterns. These climate patterns are mainly tropical (hot and wet), temperate (mild and variable) and polar (cold). The climate near equator is hot and that near poles is cold. Besides temperature, there are various other factors such as pressure, humidity, precipitation, wind, solar radiation and cloudiness which affect the climate. Various classification schemes are available which further subdivide the climatic zones.
