Reasons for Visiting the Sorcerer
According to the sorcerer, various people visit him from the neighbouring villages for their personal problems. He confided that it was a matter of great pride for him to be able to solve the problems of the people through his power of sorcery.
Most of the people, other than the Sabars and people from other indigenous groups, come to him to cure sicknesses like fevers, body aches, snake bites, vomiting, etc. Lalu Sabar, the sorcerer, stated that, “I demand high remuneration like 100 to 200 rupees from those outsiders”. In the case of the Sabar villagers, either he demands a comparatively lower amount or some small articles in exchange.People generally live in their own societies and follow particular cultural behaviours. However, when people stand face to face with crisis they hardly act logically and think rationally. Rather, they rush to people who lure them to magical imaginations or miracles and pretend to be the ultimate real element next to God (West 2005, 2007 and Forsyth 2016). Surprisingly, persons from the local police station also visit the sorcerer to find remedies for their family problems. Sorcery, therefore, appears to bridge up people from different cultural paradigms through mysterious faith.
