Chronic Complications of Diabetes Mellitus

• Prevention of long-term complications is one of the main goals of diabetes management. Appropriate treatment of established complications may delay their progression and improve quality of life.

• Microvascular complications include diabetic retinopathy (DR), nephropathy, and neuropathy. These complications are directly related to hyperglycemia. Ti ght glycemic control has been shown to reduce the development and progression of these complications.
