• Hysteroscopy continues to have a well-recognized role in the diag­nosis and management of abnormal uterine bleeding.

• Hysteroscopic polypectomy, hysteroscopic submucosal resection of fibroids, and endometrial ablation are safe and effective.

• Prognostic parameters should be taken into account when coun­selling women who opt for endometrial ablation.

• Important prognostic factors are age (satisfaction increased with age) and preoperative dysmenorrhoea (decreases satisfaction).

• Selection of the right patients is the key to success of ambulatory procedures.
