Support for women with multiple pregnancy

The risks of multiple pregnancy and the additional elements of antenatal care required to mitigate and identify them can lead to a certain level of anxiety for the woman and her partner/family.

It is important to ensure women are given good information, are guided to reputable sources of further information, and have the opportunity to clarify matters that are unclear to them. They should be encouraged to explore socioeconomic issues related to caring for and supporting more than one child. Emotional support becomes paramount when there is a co-twin demise. Various organizations focused on multiple pregnancy including TAMBA, MBF, as well as local support groups including ‘twin evenings' in specialist antenatal clinics dedicated to multiple pregnancy can provide much needed support for women with such a high-risk pregnancy.
