Constitutional conditions of bone may be divided into five categories:

■ Defects of tubular bone or spinal growth

■ Disorganized cartilage and fibrous components

■ Abnormal bony density or structure

■ Metabolic conditions usually affecting calcium or phosphorus metabolism

■ Extraskeletal disorders
