Pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) is an integral part of tertiary pediatric care centers, essential for advanced life support (PALS) and care of critically sick children. While some components of PALS, e.g. diagnosis and treatment of respiratory failure or circulatory shock, have been discussed in earlier chapters, this chapter deals with other important issues in pediatric intensive care.
