This chapter, written especially for the Balashov and Rosenberg collection, is based on material in The Book of Evidence. I offer a new solution to Goodman's important paradox, which must be answered by any account of evidence and inductive reasoning. The present solution is very differentfrom one thatStephen Barkerand I proposed in our1960 article, “On the New Riddle ofInduction, ” Philosophicat Review 69,511-522 (to which Goodman replied in the same issue).
