Adipokines
Adipokines are released by adipocytes and several other cell types. Adipokines include leptin, adiponectin, and resistin, among others (Lee et al., 2013). Leptin is critical for food satiation and induces Th1 immune responses. Adiponectin increases insulin sensitivity and may have anti-inflammatory functions. Resistin is an important factor in the development of insulin resistance and also promotes Th1 responses.
