Testes

At the start of sexual maturity, the testes begin to secrete two hormones:

I. Testosterone - produced by the interstitial cells or cells of Lcydig in response to the secretion of ICSH

from the anterior pituitary gland.

Testosterone is responsible for:

- The development of male characteristics such as muscle development, size or jowls on the face of a tomcat

- Male behaviour patterns, e.g. aggression, territorial behaviour, courtship displays and mating behaviour

- Ikvelopineiil of spermatozoa.

2. Oestrogen - produced by the Sertoli cells in the seminiferous tubules of the testes.
