3 Agreements made before 1 March, 1948

5.69 Section 2(1) only operated to convert lettings less than from year to year where they were made on or after 1 March, 1948. Short-term periodic tenancies entered into before that date were therefore exempt from the operation of the section and are not converted into yearly tenancies. A small number of monthly or weekly tenancies falling within this exception may still exist. Fixed-term lettings granted before 1 March, 1948 fall within s 3 of the 1986 Act, unless granted before 1 January 1921 (see Sch 12, para 2 of the 1986 Act).
