Conclusion

These findings reveal the importance of increased recognition of, collaborations with, and investments in children and youth as peacebuilders. In efforts to develop safe and inclusive families, schools, communities, and societies, it is imperative that children and youth are recognized and supported as active citizens for peace.

Child and youth peacebuilders are calling for inclusion of peacebuilding in the school curricula and increased capacity building on peacebuilding and conflict management skills. They are advocating for increased space for their participation and representation in peacebuilding and governance processes concerning them at local, district, and national levels to enhance collaborative efforts for sustainable peace and good governance. Furthermore, children and youth are calling for increased intergenerational dialogue and partnerships to reduce misunderstanding among the younger and older generations and to enhance collaborative efforts to prevent and address different forms of discrimination and violence. Children and youth also recognize their own responsibilities to better reflect on issues of inclusion and exclusion within their participation and peacebuilding initiatives, to strengthen their strategic efforts to reach and engage the most marginalized children and youth, and to ensure gender sensitivity and increased gender equality.
