Conclusion

This chapter is a focused presentation of a number of issues important for studying conflict using quantitative methods and for understanding previous research. We have focused on various issues related to measurement and observation, research design, sampling, data analysis, and specific issues related to cross-cultural conflict research. We are aware of many issues not dealt with here, and some of the advanced methods for studying conflict are mentioned but not addressed in depth; most important, we have not discussed research ethics. We hope the issues addressed in this chapter will stimulate careful thinking about quantitative methods, which will result in research that contributes sound theoretical insights about conflict and communication.
