THE BA OF OSIRIS

In the Vedic tradition the sequence of layers above the half measure was represented symbolically by the sequence of consonants in the Sanskrit alphabet. The thumb-size form of the enlightened soul, cognized on the scale of the first layer, was known as the divine Ka, the same designation as the first consonant of the alphabet.

The twenty-third consonant of the Sanskrit alphabet, Ba, symbolizes the twenty-third layer above the half measure. The galactic form of the soul, cognized on the scale of the twenty-third layer, may thus be called the divine Ba.

It turns out that the phonemes ka and ba were also used by the Egyptians to refer to two important forms of the soul. The Ka was the form of the soul closest to the human condition. The Ba was the higher form of the soul, which was viewed as capable of ascending beyond this world into the fathomless realms of heaven. In Egyptian iconography, the Ba was thus represented by a bird with a human head.

The Egyptian sages held that in order for the soul to ascend beyond this world into the bosom of heaven and attain immortality, the Ka had to become united with the Ba. Drawing upon the Vedic alphabetical model, this can be interpreted to mean that the enlightened human soul (the divine Ka) must expand and become united with the enlightened galactic soul (the divine Ba) before it can ascend beyond the galactic world (the real earth world) into the vastness of intergalactic space.

The union of the Ka and the Ba thus provides a spiritual representation of the union of the two lands: the land of Set, which is cognized over the spectrum of the first twenty-two layers, and the land of Horus, which is cognized over the spectrum of the subsequent twenty layers. These two are united on the scale of the twenty-third layer (represented by the twenty-third nome)—which is also the layer where the Ka is united with the Ba.

In support of this interpretation, the Egyptian texts state specifically that the Great Pyramid was constructed to house the Ba of Osiris, the Lord of Immortality. In this case, the house of the Ba corresponds to the visible form of the galaxy—the luminous body of the divine Ba.

This leads to the speculation that in ancient times the Great Pyramid may have been used as an initiation chamber wherein the king or pharaoh went to have his human Ka united with the galactic Ba—the Ba of Osiris—in a sacred ritual conducted by the high priests of On. By virtue of this initiation, the pharaoh was assigned a galactic state of consciousness, and was viewed as a fit embodiment of God to rule over the united kingdom of Egypt, the image of heaven on earth.

The fact that the Vedic alphabetical model can be used to illuminate the secret meanings of the Egyptian Ka and Ba suggests that the ancient spiritual science was expressed initially in a universal phonemic language prior to the emergence of, or perhaps in addition to, specific grammatical languages. This conjecture is supported by the biblical myth of the tower of Babel, which suggests that at one time, all men spoke a common language that was eventually lost, leading humans to speak in different tongues.
