Concluding Thoughts

To further improve control of caprine paratuberculosis, continuous focus on management and prevention of transmission are important factors. Development of sensitive and validated diagnostic assays, especially in the early subclin- ical stage of infection, is also needed for efficient control.

Thus, future research priorities should be diagnostic tests, including more knowledge on volatile organic compounds and other MAP biomarkers. In addition, more knowledge on protective immunity and pathogenesis in goats is needed to be able to develop improved vaccines.
