Penis Self-Mutilation
B6 mice have been reported to self-mutilate their penis, ranging from damage to the distal penis to complete amputation. This was observed in 8.5% of harem breeder males and may be related to the high level of copulatory behavior in this mouse strain and its tendency toward impulsive/ compulsive disorders. The affected mice were noted to be hyperactive and constantly chasing and mounting the females in the cage. This syndrome, like pugilistic trauma to the penis, can lead to obstructive uropathy.
