Conclusion

My goal in this chapter was to communicate the significance of religion to conflict research. History and scholarship display how religious groups and individuals conceptualize and enact conflicts in similar and different ways.

Such differences and similarities offer theoretical, methodological, and practical chal- lenges/opportunities for theorists and conflict practitioners alike. As the communicative

study of conflict continues to grow, scholars and practitioners should consider the role of religion in conflicts. With previous studies showing significant relationships between religion and conflict, the addition of religion as a macrolevel (religious identification) and as a microlevel (religiosity/religiousness) variable could provide a great deal of insight into various conflict behaviors.
