Interpretation of Conflict

Next, conflict interpretation (Chapter 9) concerns how people create explanations for the conflict episode, which in turn affects their strategy selection. Here we mostly rely on attribution theory (Manusov & Harvey, 2001). In this theoretical light, strategic conflict in interpretation of incompatibilities targets attributional control. And researchers have variously examined how people’s attributions help their constructions and interpretations of conflict situations.
