Peripheral Arterial Disease

In the retrospective and/or prospective longitudinal studies that have been published to date, symptoms suggestive of PAD, their frequency and severity, and other pertinent characteristics were not collected and reported in detail [1-5]. In the Aquitaine France Cohort, among 2,744 HIV-infected patients followed up and on file in 2002, we retrospectively identified 43 (non-coronary) peripheral arterial and/or venous PAD symptoms that had occurred in 35 patients (0.01%; P. Mercie, unpublished data from the Cohort Aquitaine Database). Although vasculitic syndromes are uncommon even in the large cohorts, several case reports and some small series have been published.
