Pregnancy management
ART pregnancies are not inherently ‘high risk’. Some women will require intensive monitoring in pregnancy following IVF, for example, older women, those with pre-existing medical conditions, and those with multiple pregnancies. However, a healthy singleton pregnancy for a woman under 36 years and previously well can be managed in a shared care system with expectation of a vaginal delivery. Nevertheless, caesarean section rates remain high for IVF pregnancies and many obstetricians treat all such patients with caution.
