Foreign Body Periondontitis: Hair Tooth
A commonly encountered lesion in a variety of mouse strains is inflammation and erosion of the gingival sulci of the cheek teeth, with impaction of hair and food particles (Fig. 1.116). These lesions give rise to secondary suppurative bacterial infections that may extend into the tooth root and surrounding tissues of the head. The syndrome may be associated with excessive barbering or trichotillomania.
