Mice in a number of university and research institute mouse colonies in Japan have been found to be infected with B. hinzii.
The survey was prompted by an index C57BL/6 mouse with sneezing and histopathologic evidence of rhinitis, tracheitis, peribronchiolar lymphoid hyperplasia, and bronchopneumonia. Inoculation of ICR and NOD-SCID mice resulted in similar disease, with NOD-SCID mice developing interstitial pneumonia.
