Unlike dominance of coronary heart disease and essential hypertension in adults, congenital heart diseases (CHDs) contribute over 3/4th of cardiac disorders in children, followed by rheumatic heart disease (RHD) in adolescents. Hypertension in childhood is usually secondary to renal, vascular or endocrinal disease.
