Conclusion
The unmet need for contraception remains high in many settings. In addition, many women using contraception are not satisfied with their method which potentially puts them at risk for discontinuation without replacement with a more acceptable method, leading to unintended pregnancy.
Addressing unmet need remains a global priority. One of the health targets of the SDGs is to ensure that by 2030 universal access to sexual and reproductive healthcare services, including information and education about contraception, and the integration of reproductive health are incorporated into national strategies and programmes world-wide. The Family Planning 2020 commitment to action pledged to bring modern contraception within reach of an additional 120 million women and girls by the year 2020 and is supported by many funders and national governments. This may well provide the much needed expansion of contraceptive knowledge, accessibility, and use (87).
