Cytomegalovirus Infection: Cricetid Herpesvirus, CrHV-1
Cytomegalovirus-like lesions have been observed in salivary glands of subclinically infected Chinese hamsters, but not other hamster species. Intranuclear and intra- cytoplasmic inclusions with cytomegaly were present in the acinar epithelium of the submaxillary salivary glands. Cytomegaloviruses are generally host-specific, so it is unlikely that CrHV-1 infects other species of hamsters.
